About me

Mr Driscoll is an expert in the treatment of gallstone disease, routinely performing laparoscopic cholecystectomy (the removal of the gallbladder by keyhole surgery) and clearance of gall stones from the bile duct. He also specialises in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery for the treatment of all forms of abdominal wall hernia. This includes the repair of epigastric, umbilical, inguinal, femoral and incisional hernias.

Mr Driscoll has developed a national specialist referral base for the treatment of groin pain in elite (and not-so-elite) athletes. As a result, he is the only surgeon in the UK, other than Mr Lloyd himself, trained and approved to perform The Lloyd Release.

In addition to clinical commitments, Mr Driscoll takes a keen interest in the training of both medical students and trainee surgeons from Edinburgh, Dundee and St Andrews Universities. He also regularly directs national courses in surgical critical care at The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and is co-author and director of similar courses delivered in Hong Kong for the Hong Kong College of Surgeons.

Mr Driscoll studied Physiology (and golf) at St.Andrews University (1987-1991), then went on to study Medicine at The Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, London (1991-1996). Having taught anatomy and worked in A&E for a year he moved back to Scotland to a training post in Edinburgh in 1998, where he completed surgical training, during which time he was awarded an MD in surgical training and assessment. Following a fellowship to Melbourne, Australia, Mr Driscoll returned to take up a post as an Upper GI and General Surgery Consultant in Fife, a post closely linked to Edinburgh via the south-east Scotland cancer network. As the result of his commitment to surgical teaching, he is an Honorary Senior Lecturer to the University of Edinburgh Medical School and The Bute Medical School in St Andrews University.
