About me

Dr Hywel Cooper has just stepped down as Clinical lead after almost 7 years and continues as Research lead for Dermatology at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust one of the busiest NHS dermatology departments in the country.
Dr Cooper graduated in 1996 with a distinction in primary BM at Southampton Medical School and obtaining an additional BioMedical Science degree in 1995. He holds an international diploma in Acupuncture from Changchun University Medical School, China in 1992.
Having gained his MRCP in 2000 he began his career specialising in dermatology that year. Dr Cooper spent 2 years undertaking laboratory based and clinical research into who and why people get reactions to medications with publications in leading journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine.
Dr Cooper specialises in skin disease including skin cancer, chronic skin disease, connective tissue diseases, lesion diagnosis and drug allergy. He performs skin surgery including skin cancer and lesion excision, skin lesion and rash diagnosis as well as injection treatment for hyperhidrosis (excess sweating).
