About me

My main subspecialist interest is in lower limb arthroplasty (replacement) of the hip and knee. I completed my Higher Surgical Training in the North East of England and did my advanced arthroplasty Fellowship Training as the Cavendish Hip Fellow for the Internationally renowned Lower Limb Arthroplasty Unit in Sheffield. The unit performs primary hip and knee arthroplasty as well as complex single and two stage revision surgery and reconstruction following infection, which accounts for just over half the case load.

I am based on the NHS at Airedale General Hospital where I was appointed in November 2009 as the Lead Specialist Hip and Knee arthroplasty surgeon with an interest in complex revision often involving the treatment of infection and massive bone loss.

I performs all aspects of hip arthroplasty including the use of ceramic bearings in the young patient group. In revision hip surgery I utilises a variety of surgical techniques such as extended trochanteric osteotomies and trochanteric slides for exposure. I am fully experienced in major pelvic revision techniques such as using mesh and reinforcement rings along with impaction bone grafting for cemented sockets. I also uses uncemented sockets and bulk allograft when appropriate. I uses a variety of cemented and uncemented implants to deal with the different aspects of femoral bone loss including proximal and total femoral endoprosthetic replacement surgery. I also performs total hip replacement for fracture neck of femur patients in the appropriate physiological groups.

I performs condylar primary knee arthroplasty with single rdaius technology and utilise condylar and hinged knee replacements in revision surgery along with hinged knees for complex and fixed deformity knee arthritis.

I performs all routine arthroscopic procedures of the knee such as menisectomy.
