About me
Dr Ansari has over 17 years of experience as a Consultant Gastroenterologist and works for the Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He provides private consultations at London Bridge Hospital.
He routinely manages patients in the NHS with a broad range of digestive disorders ranging from ‘stomach disorders’ to ‘complex Crohn’s Disease’.
Dr Ansari completed his specialist training at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital (GSTT). His research was funded by grants from the Trustees of Guy’s and St Thomas' Hospital Trust (GSTT) in the emerging field of pharmacogenetics (personalised medicine).
This research has resulted in improving the safety and outcomes of immunosuppressive treatments such as azathioprine for inflammatory bowel disease and autoimmune disorders. It has also resulted in the setting up of internationally recognised ‘thiopurine research’ at GSTT, generated many research papers and Dr Ansari’s award of a Doctorate through the University of London.
As a Consultant, Dr Ansari led and developed a large and nationally recognised IBD service at the Surrey and Sussex Trust.
Key achievements include writing and delivering the IBD Treatment Pathways and the application of his research findings for the benefit of patients through the improved use of azathioprine and other immunosuppressives.
Dr Ansari’s research has been supported with grants and work through the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Academic Health Science Network (KSS AHSN) and through his role as a visiting Professor at the University of Surrey.
His specific areas of expertise include IBD, complex Crohn’s Disease, immunosuppressive therapies, and all therapeutic endoscopy and colonoscopy.
Dr Ansari is highly rated by his patients and is passionate about improving the patient experience, through research and improved outcomes for patients.
