About me
Mr Andrew Ballaro has been a full time NHS and private Consultant Urological Surgeon for over 15 years and is highly experienced in the management of all adult urological problems.
He has specialist surgical interests in laser surgery for kidney stones, benign prostatic enlargement (BPE) and urinary retention, as well as 'core' urological surgery including penoscrotal disease and the diagnosis of prostate disease including prostate cancer.
He has consistently published some of the best surgical outcome data in the UK for complex stone surgery, and is an expert in Holmium Laser Prostatectomy (HoLEP) for patients with very large prostates unable to pass urine. In his hands 99% in a series of over 200 patients with very large prostates were able to pass urine and leave hospital the day after successful surgery.
He provides the Transperineal MRI Fusion prostate biopsy technique for the diagnosis of prostate cancer in patients with raised PSA, the most precise and minimally invasive method available, and impartial advice on the best treatment modality and access to an expert tertiary referral base for newly diagnosed patients. He is also highly experienced at the management of prostatitis and pelvic pain syndromes.
Mr Ballaro teaches London deanery trainee urologists at all levels and whilst training at the Institute of Urology at UCL in London was awarded a Hunterian Professorship for his research work on bladder dysfunction. He still publishes and presents articles regularly, and is co-author of the latest (7th) edition of the standard medical student Urology textbook 'Lecture Notes in Urology'.
