About me
Mr Andrew Ballaro has been a full time NHS and private Consultant Urological Surgeon for 17 years and is highly experienced in the management of all adult urological problems.
He is expert in surgery for the benign enlarged prostate (BPE) and kidney stones and the management of urinary retention, raised PSA and prostate cancer diagnosis.
He offers a range of treatments for urinary symptoms and urinary retention due to benign prostatic enlargement and including prostate Aquablation, Holmium laser prostatectomy (HoLEP), which is the recommended treatment for very large prostates, and Rezum and he has very successfully treated patients with prostates of over 400cc. In a recent audit of over 150 of his patients 99% of patients with catheters went home the day after surgery passing urine well. Mr Ballaro also runs a high volume laser stone practice and has published some of the best surgical outcomes for complex stone surgery in the country.
He offers MRI-Fusion Transperineal biopsy for the diagnosis of prostate cancer which is the most accurate and minimally invasive technique available, and also the EpiSwitch blood test, which significantly improves the accuracy of standard PSA testing. He provides impartial advice and access to the best experts in London for definitive prostate cancer treatments. He is also highly experienced in the management of prostatitis, testicular and pelvic pain syndromes, infections, circumcision and all adult general urological surgery.

Mr Ballaro qualified from The Royal Free Hospital Medical School and undertook
basic surgical training in Oxford. After being awarded a Masters degree in Urology, several competitive research fellowships and an MD from The Institute of Urology at University College London he completed higher urological training on the North London Training Scheme and is on the GMC Specialist Register.
In addition to his clinical interests, Mr Ballaro has an interest in education and research. He has over fifty peer reviewed publications on minimally invasive surgical techniques and basic science. He trains Urologists at all levels and is co-author of the last edition of the standard medical student textbook 'Lecture notes in Urology'. He has a growing medicolegal practice and is a trained and recognised Expert Witness for urological cases, and is experienced at revieing cases and providing detailed second opinions.
Mr Ballaro is married with three children and when not working enjoys family time, playing electric guitar, kitesurfing, skiing and skippering small yachts.
