About me

I qualified from Cambridge then Oxford University medical schools, and gained neurology experience in Newcastle, followed by formal clinical neurophysiology training at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in Queen Square (London) and Sydney.

In my full time NHS role at Addenbrooke's Hospital I lead the Clinical Neurophysiology service, where we investigate diseases of peripheral nerve and muscle as well as interpret tests of the brain to investigate suspected epileptic seizures.

At Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital, and Nuffield Hospital Cambridge, I provide a full neuromuscular service using EMG (electromyography) and nerve conduction studies (Note I do not provide EEG or other specialist tests at the above hospitals - they are available privately via Addenbrooke's). I commonly investigate patients with problems such as tingly or numb fingers, carpal tunnel syndrome, ulnar nerve problems, sciatica or other nerve root symptoms (radiculopathies), and weakness suspected to be caused by nerve or muscle problems.

I regularly perform tests to help diagnose rare diseases of the nerves and muscles. I am always happy to explain the tests I perform since they are unfamiliar to most patients and many doctors too. By understanding the investigation you will appreciate its role in diagnosis and how it helps inform decisions about treatment.

Areas of interest

Electromyography (EMG); nerve conduction (NCS); carpal tunnel syndrome; tingly hands; ulnar neuropathy; peripheral neuropathy; myopathy; plexopathy; radiculopathy; myasthenia gravis; tingly fingers; nerve injury; Electroencephalography (EEG); video telemetry; 24h EEG; sleep EEG; evoked potentials;

At the Spire and Nuffield hospitals in Cambridge I only see adult patients (>18yo), and only perform peripheral nerve and muscle investigations (EMG and NCS)

At Addenbrooke's hospital, Cambridge, I see paediatric and adult patients. I perform EMG there, as well as EEG, thermal threshold and evoked potential testing.

I interpret EEG, but do not undertake consultations for epilepsy (performed by a neurologist)
