About me
James is an Orthopaedic and Trauma Consultant Surgeon based in South and East Birmingham (Solihull and Sutton Coldfield), although he sees patients from all over the country.
He specialises exclusively in knee surgery and sports injuries. He obtained the certificate of higher specialist training in 2008 before 3 fellowships in knee surgery in Melbourne, Australia; the Royal Devon and Exeter Knee reconstruction unit and the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford.
Much of his time is spent carrying out knee replacement including partial knee replacement. He uses ROBOT guided surgery (Mako) for all knee replacements and partial replacements. Mako robot technology is often used for re-do (revision) knee replacement too.
He has a particular interest in the treatment of early knee arthritis and sports injuries. He carries out knee arthroscopy (key-hole), anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction and treats knee cartilage injuries with up-to-date cell regeneration techniques. He also carries out knee realignment to delay knee replacement (osteotomy).
A retired rugby player, he maintains an interest in outdoor sports including cycling and works as team surgeon with Aston Villa FC and is match day doctor for elite rugby.
