About me

Dr Scurfield graduated from Leeds Medical School in 1999. In 2004, She gained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians and an MSc in Sport & Exercise Medicine from Nottingham University.
As part of the Olympic 2012 Legacy, she moved to London to complete her higher specialist training in Sport & Exercise Medicine, gaining specialist recognition and Fellowship of the Faculty of Sport & Exercise Medicine in 2010.

During her training, Dr Scurfield has gained extensive experience in the management of traumatic and overuse musculoskeletal injuries working within a variety of sporting disciplines at elite and competitive level. She has also worked as a Medical officer at Olympic and Commonwealth Games and World University Games
Currently she is the Lead Doctor for the Newcastle Falcons Premiership Rugby Union team and previously has 5 years experience as aSport and Exercise Medicine Consultant for the MoD Regional Rehabilitation Unit in Catterick, North Yorkshire.

During consultations Dr Scurfield incorporates the use of diagnostic ultrasound into her assessment and management of injuries allowing her to offer Ultrasound guided injections in clinic. She is also trained to perform Extracorporeal shockwave therapy
Working regularly with professional sportpersons she understands the frustration that comes with an injury and is keen to ensure a sustainable return to activity/work without delay. She also has a keen interest in the management of overuse tendon injuries and concussion.
