About me

Dr Watkin is a Consultant Cardiologist with over a decade of experience in the treatment and investigation of heart disorder symptoms linked to cardiac conditions. He sees private patients at the Spire Little Aston Hospital, BMI Priory Hospital and The Harborne Hospital.

Dr Watkin gained his primary medical qualification at University Birmingham, after which he undertook his basic and specialist cardiology training in the West Midlands. He later gained his Medical Doctorate at the University of Birmingham after completing his research on infective endocarditis. Dr Watkin was appointed Consultant in 2009 and his and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Birmingham and subsequently a Honorary Associate Professor.

He has been awarded a fellowship of the European Society of Cardiology for his contribution to cardiovascular health and scientific excellence.

He is a ex clinical service lead for cardiology at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation trust and current Cardiac Services Network Chair. He is an accredited consultant appraiser and an examiner for the University of Birmingham Medical School. Dr Watkin is a topic experts for NICE and a reviewer for the National Institute for Health Research.
