About me
Mr. Mark Broadbent is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon with a specialist focus on Hand and Upper Limb Surgery. He is based in Glasgow, working within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde at Inverclyde Royal Hospital and The Royal Alexandra Hospital. In addition to his NHS practice, Mr. Broadbent offers private consultations at Ross Hall Hospital and Nuffield Health Glasgow Hospital, delivering expert care to patients requiring advanced upper limb surgical treatment.
Born and educated in Glasgow, Mr. Broadbent pursued his medical degree at Edinburgh University, graduating in 1998. He went on to complete his basic surgical training in Edinburgh, achieving Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2001. He then embarked on a rigorous five-year Specialist Registrar training program on the North of Scotland Trauma and Orthopaedic Rotation, where he gained extensive experience in trauma and orthopaedic surgery. In 2007, he successfully passed the Intercollegiate Trauma and Orthopaedic Exam, earning a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
To further refine his expertise in hand surgery, Mr. Broadbent undertook two prestigious Advanced Hand Training Fellowships through the Interface Group in Hand Surgery. From July 2008 to January 2009, he trained in Oxford under renowned hand surgeons Peter Burge, Henk Giele, Ian McNab, Paul Critchley, and Chris Little. He then continued his advanced training at Wrightington Hospital, a world-renowned centre for hand surgery, where he worked alongside leading surgeons Professor John Stanley, Ian Trail, Mike Hayton, and Professor Raj Murali.
Mr. Broadbent is highly regarded for his expertise in treating complex hand, wrist and upper limb conditions, as well as the routine conditions. His clinical practice covers a wide range of procedures, from managing trauma injuries to performing intricate reconstructive surgeries, including wrist and small joint replacements. He has a special interest in Dupuytren's Disease as well as carpal tunnel surgery. His approach prioritises patient-centred care, ensuring that each patient receives a tailored treatment plan to achieve the best possible outcomes.
As a member of several esteemed professional organisations, including the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH), the British Shoulder and Elbow Society (BESS), and the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA), Mr. Broadbent remains actively involved in the advancement of orthopaedic knowledge and practice.
