About me

Hello, I am Dr Victor Thompson, a Chartered Clinical Psychologist, BABCP accredited and HCPC registered. I help a wide-range of people, experiencing common psychological difficulties - people like you.

I have a BSc Honours Degree in Psychology. After gaining experience within the NHS, I studied to become a Clinical Psychologist, qualifying in 2001. This is a 3-year post-graduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology course, at University College London (UCL). After a few years of working in the NHS and privately, I decided to further my knowlege and skills by completing the specialist post-graduate Diploma in CBT, at the University of Oxford.

I provide assessments and treatments for a range of common psychological difficulties, drawing on my qualifications and training in CBT and Clinical Psychology. The breadth and depth of my Clinical Psychology training in a range of approaches in addition to CBT, and with a wide-range of patients and settings, gives me comprehensive experience and treatment. I worked as a NHS Clinical Psychologist until June 2019, having practiced for over 15 years, laterly leading a team of over 20 psychologists.

When we meet, the first session is used to assess your difficulties, to give you an understanding of how I understand the problems you are having and what is likely to help. Then if you feel that this is a good fit for you (almost everyone does), we agree on a short number of sessions to see if we can make progress towards improving things for you. My approach is open and practical.
