About me

Professor Epstein specialises in providing advice and guidance across the range of digestive disorders as well as offering minimally invasive diagnostics.

He qualified in South Africa and soon thereafter, moved to London where he specialised in hepatology and gastroenterology in Professor Dame Sheila Sherlock's medical unit at the Royal Free Hospital. In 1986 he was appointed consultant gastroenterologist and in 2007, was awarded a UCL personal chair in gastroenterology. He has published over 100 peer reviewed publications and is the senior author of the best selling textbook "Clinical Examination". Professor Epstein led the development of the Sheila Sherlock Education Centre at the Royal Free, the endoscopy and laparoscopic simulation centre, and the iConsult project designed to streamline the patient pathway. He is currently the medical director of the Royal Free Private Patient Unit Institute for Minimally Invasive Gastroenterology (IMIGE) and has experience of oesophageal, gastric, small and large intestinal capsule endoscopy. His minimally invasive diagnostic lab also offers breath testing for lactose and fructose intolerance, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), helicobacter pylori and gastric emptying.The MIGe unit also offers 3 day autonomic tone assessment that provides a window to the brain gut axis, physiological stress, sleep quality, recovery and physical fitenss (well-being).
