About me

Dr Richard Ashton has been a consultant for 30 years in General Dermatology (treatment of eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, acne etc), with a special interest in Skin Cancer, Mohs and Dermatological Surgery. He set up the NHS Mohs micrographic surgery service at Portsmouth in 1977.

Dr Richard Ashton graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge and then studied medicine at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in London, qualifying in 1974. His dermatology training involved time at the Royal South Hants Hospital, St. John’s Hospital for Diseases of the Skin in Leicester Square London, the University of California, Los Angeles where he carried out research into the effects of retinoids on the skin. He completed a Doctorate in Medicine on this subject in 1991. He was consultant dermatologist to the Royal Navy till 2006, retiring as a Surgeon Captain.
