About me

I come from a medical family over several generations and studied medicine at Cambridge and University College London. I undertook and collaborated in research into autoimmune disease and therapies for arthritis in Manchester and before that at the Royal Postgraduate (Imperial) Medical School in London and in the USA at Denver and Cold Spring Harbor. This work has led to more than 100 publications and over 9200 citations by other authors.

I worked in the NHS as a consultant physician and rheumatologist at Manchester Royal Infirmary and continue in private practice and as an honorary lecturer with the University of Manchester. I also act as a medicolegal expert in rheumatology for the Courts. In private practice I see patients with a wide variety of rheumatological conditions. I try to take a holistic view.
