About me

Mr Vikas Kapoor
Professional Biography
I am an internationally renowned spinal surgeon with over 35 years of medical experience and over 20 years as a consultant in the North West - one of the most experienced spinal surgeons in the region. I am regarded in medical circles as a "surgeon's surgeon" - other medical professionals, including surgeons and physicians, regularly seek me out for treatment of their own spinal conditions, such is the level of trust in my surgical ability and judgment.
A Different Approach to Spinal Care
What sets my practice apart is my philosophy: surgery is a last resort, not a first option. Although I am an expert in the most advanced surgical techniques available, the majority of my patients achieve excellent outcomes without ever needing an operation. My appointments are designed to find the right solution for you - whether that's working with specialist physiotherapists, pain consultants, chiropractors, or, when necessary, performing precision surgery that gets you back to your life as quickly as possible.
Comprehensive Expertise
During my training, I sought out the best mentors across the UK - from leading neurosurgeons on the south coast to orthopaedic specialists in the North West - to master both traditional and cutting-edge approaches. This multidisciplinary foundation, combined with over two decades of consultant-level practice, allows me to treat the full spectrum of spinal conditions, from cervical spine disorders to complex sacrococcygeal cases.
I specialize in minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery, allowing my patients to experience significantly faster recovery times and less post-operative pain than traditional open surgery provides. Over two decades as a consultant, I have performed thousands of spinal procedures, continually refining techniques that prioritize patient outcomes and quality of life.
Leadership and Teaching
As the most senior spinal surgeon and clinical lead at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport, I have built a comprehensive spinal service that serves patients across the region. My academic role in the MCh clinical training programme keeps me at the forefront of emerging treatments for complex spinal conditions.
I regularly train surgeons across Europe, the Americas, and Asia in advanced spinal techniques, and served as President of the Manchester Medical Society Surgical Division. My practice includes managing complex cases referred by colleagues across the North West.
Your Recovery, Your Goals
My commitment is straightforward: to help you get your life back. Whether through conservative management or surgical intervention, every treatment plan is tailored to your specific condition, your lifestyle, and your goals. The trust placed in me by fellow medical professionals reflects the standard of care I provide to every patient.
