About me

I am a Consultant General and Upper GI Surgeon at the University of Manchester NHS Foundation Trust Wythenshawe site with interests in gastrointestinal and hernia surgery. I have over 21 years of experience as a Consultant Surgeon.

I have had extensive training in gastrointestinal and laparoscopic surgery. A period of research at Manchester University led to the award of Doctor of Medicine (MD) in 2001.My current role includes teaching medical students and training surgeons of the future.I am also the Trust Lead for the National Emergency Laparotomy Audit, NELA

In my previous post as a Consultant Upper GI Surgeon at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust I carried out complex oesophago-gastric cancer resections including using key hole approach with good clinical outcomes and this included my role of Lead Upper GI Surgeon for the Trust for 7 years.

My surgical practice has also over the years included complex laparoscopic (key hole) surgery for simple and complex general surgical problems including all hernia repairs, gallbladder removal (for gallstones), laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery and hiatus hernia surgery, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, incisional, umbilical and paraumbilical hernia repairs.

I have carried out thousands of GI endoscopy procedures for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

I am very well supported by a team of experienced Consultant anaesthetists, nursing staff and a Practice Manager Jane who would help and support you in your care pathway.

Outside work, I am a student of the game of golf and enjoy a game of golf with friends when time permits.
