About me
I am reviewing the guidelines regarding Covid - 19 and while able to would like to offer hybrid appointments that include face to face and online platforms.
I will continue to offer counselling whilst I am fit and healthy if that changes I will let you know. I acknowledge this is a difficult time for many - all of us are affected by the current climate, and I am keenly aware of the challenges many are facing.
Welcome, my name is Umaa Thampu. I am currently working in private practice while also teaching Certificate Course in Counselling Skills at The Gestalt Centre in London. My passion lies in raising body awareness and supporting others through their interpersonal dynamics and internal conflicts. I work with my clients in a safe and supportive environment that is not based on assumptions and fosters a spirit of curiosity and openness.
I have gained over 10 years’ experience in mental health settings including a local community counselling organisation, social services and a youth counselling service. I have honed the ability to help clients create meaning and understanding when faced with challenging experiences in their lives.
In addition, I hold a strong commitment to provide a person-centred approach which empowers individuals through awareness and growth. There is no fixed method or one size fits all solution so I remain client-led through offering a service which is unique to each individual’s needs. The Gestalt approach involves working in the present but does not ignore the influences of the past.
As a Gestalt therapist, I am keen to understand patterns and stuck loops of behaviour. I believe that raising self-awareness gives clients more autonomy and choice in their lives which allows them to thrive. Gestalt therapy focuses on noticing body sensations and tensions. By raising awareness of the body, we can become better equipped to take care of ourselves.
I am a BACP accredited counsellor and a member of BAATN (Black, African and Asian Therapy Network). I adhere to both organisations core values and code of ethics..
