About me

I am a BACP registered senior accredited person-centred therapist, supervisor and trainer with extensive experience of working with adults in the voluntary, public and private sectors. My private practice is based in central Norwich and it is from here that I offer short and long term therapy.

From a young age I became interested in the areas of self help, personal growth and development and it was during an experience of being in therapy in my early 30s that I decided to re train and become a counsellor. I have never looked back and have been privileged to work with many incredible clients and colleagues through my work as a practitioner and trainer. I genuinely do not look back but just by way of information before all of this, my first career was in management, the early years spent in the commercial sector and finishing that chapter in my life with a senior management role in the charity sector. This does mean I bring significant experience and understanding of the work place and organisations in to my work as a therapist, which sometimes can be of use.

Psychotherapy and counselling

Person-centred therapy aims to promote personal growth and development. It is a talking therapy that will enable you to develop your understanding of your problems something which is achieved by providing a non-judgemental, safe environment that is centred on trust and respect for you as the client. The therapy is suitable for clients who wish to explore their past, their current situation or the future and can be helpful for a wide range of concerns and difficulties.

In all of the work that I do I aim to put the client at the heart of the endeavour, working with what is important to the person and following their lead and pace. While the client is as the heart I am there too and it is through the therapeutic relationship we create that insight, learning and change can occur.

I know from client feedback and my own personal experience that there can sometimes be many obstacles to overcome before embarking on counselling. For most of us it can feel like a big deal to share our story with someone who initially is a complete stranger. If you are wondering how person-centred counselling could actually help you, here is a snap shot of the kind of things clients have said to me,

“Talking through my difficulties with someone who is not involved or has a particular view on my situation or who judges me enables me to see things more clearly.”

“Talking things through has enabled me to make the changes that I want and need to make in my life.”

“Talking has enabled me to feel less isolated, this is the first time I have shared this with anyone and I feel lighter for that.”

“Getting all these thoughts out of my head and in to words has lessened the muddle I feel about my situation.”

“I feel you have valued me, the decisions and choices I have made which helps me to feel OK about those choices.”
