About me

Dr Philip Kelly is an experienced Consultant Endocrinologist, Diabetologist, Acute and General Physician. Dr Kelly always delivers a high quality and easily accessible service. He offers rapid access to investigations alongside up to date information and support.

Dr Kelly has been a Consultant Physician at King's College Hospital since 2013, he is the endocrinologist to the King's specialist sarcoid clinic and the Orbital MDT managing Thyroid Eye Disease/ Graves' ophthalmopathy; he is Clinical Academic Group Co-Lead at King's Health Partners, has been Clinical Director and Clinical Lead of Acute Medicine across King's College Hospital and is the London Regional Transfusion Committee Chair. His clinical interests are in general and specialist endocrinology particularly thyroid disease and maintaining excellent thyroid function for fertility, pregnancy and beyond; type 2 diabetes mellitus, lipid disorders, hypertension, the diagnosis and management of anaemia, infections of the lungs, urinary tracts and central nervous system and the diagnosis and management of pulmonary embolism and its consequences on cardio-respiratory health. He will also see patients for second opinions where the diagnosis is in doubt particularly complex illness, general health checks and specifically to reduce the risk of heart and cardiovascular disease.

Dr Kelly graduated in medicine from The London Hospital Medical College and undertook specialist training in endocrinology, diabetes mellitus and general internal medicine at St Bartholomew's and The Royal London Hospitals. Alongside his clinical training he undertook research in the endocrinology of colon cancer and gained an MD from the University of London in 2010. He has worked as a Consultant Endocrinologist, Diabetologist and Acute and General Physician at Whipps Cross and Southend Hospitals before moving to King's College Hospital. He is a member of the British Thyroid Association and The Society for Endocrinology.

Areas of interest

Specialist and General Endocrinology; thyroid disease including before, during and after pregnancy; adrenal disease; parathyroid disease:, pituitary tumours, including prolactinoma, and pituitary insufficiency; menopause, bioidentical HRT, ovarian disease (polycystic ovarian disease - PCOS); endocrine disease affecting fertility; testicular failure including androgen deficiency and replacement; disturbances of calcium, sodium and water, magnesium and vitamin D; osteoporosis.

Diabetes mellitus - new presentations, follow-up and annual review; cardiovascular risk assessment and reduction; obesity with and without diabetes; new drugs for obesity management and diabetes.

Lipids - hypercholesterolaemia, mixed dyslipidaemia, high triglycerides; multiple drug intolerances and the use of new agents to reduce lipids and cardiovascular risk.

Fatigue; anaemia; transfusion medicine; venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism; hypertension; lung infections and meningitis.
