About me

Mr Malek started his medical career in Baroda Medical College, India in 1992. After completing MBBS in 1998, he succeeded in advancing his career through formal training schemes in the UK. He completed Basic Surgical Training in Merseyside and Orthopaedic Registrar Training in Wales, obtaining MRCS and FRCS (Tr & Orth) qualifications. He developed interest in the hip and knee replacement surgery at a very early stage and learnt surgical skills from well-known surgeons in the field like Mr S Jones, Mr R Morgan-Jones and Mr M Maheson. After completing the registrar training, he secured a prestigious fellowship in lower limb arthroplasty and reconstruction at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) Stanmore and learned from internationally renowned joint replacement surgeons like Miss S Muirhead-Allwood, Prof T Briggs, Prof J Skinner and Mr R Carrington. Having gathered the best knowledge and skills from his trainers, he ventured into consultant career in hip and knee surgery.
He started his consultant career 2011 and settled in Staffordshire. His main practice was primary and revision hip and knee replacement as well as major reconstructions after trauma or infection around the prosthesis. He also managed acute knee injuries including arthroscopy and ACL reconstructions. He left NHS in 2019 but continued practicing at the private hospitals serving both NHS and private patients. Due to national guidelines and restrictions in revision hip and knee replacement surgeries, he has stopped doing these operations at private hospitals. His core practice now includes:
STAR approach Minimally invasive total hip replacement
Minimally invasive Medial Pivot total knee replacement
Minimally invasive partial knee replacement
Knee arthroscopy including ACL reconstruction
Trochanteric bursa excision and hip abductor tendon repair
He has been the highest volume hip and knee replacement surgeon in the country for 5 years according to the UK National Joint Registry database that collects data for every joint replacement performed in the UK for last 25 years. Mr Malek has been a strong advocate for Enhanced Recovery Pathways for joint replacement surgery and led the programme at local NHS trust since 2012. This led to decrease the hospital stay from 5-6 days to 1-2 days. With more advances and evidence, he adopted the Day Case Joint Replacement practice as routine for last 2 years.
