About me

PAIN MANAGEMENT
I have been employed as a Pain Consultant for the last 13 years. I am presently the Lead clinician for Chronic pain services at the University Hospital of North Midlands. My job plan contains regular Pain clinics and injections lists. I have private clinics at Rowley Hall and Nuffield North Staffordshire hospitaIs. I see over 1000 pain patients for consultations in the outpatients clinics and perform over 400 injections per year.

Our Pain department at UHNM is a secondary referral centre for Chronic Pain. The majority of my patients suffer with Spinal pain. In addition, I see patients with Chronic Pelvic Pain, Neuropathic pain, Post-surgical pain, Osteoarthritic joint pain and Chronic Pain syndrome. I work with a team of 3 other Pain Consultants and a Physiotherapist.

My injection list include patients having Radiofrequency denervation(Rhizolysis) of Lumbar facet nerves, Facet Nerve injections of Lumbar and Cervical spine, X-ray guided Caudal and Lumbar Epidural injections, Ultrasound guided peripheral nerve blocks and Trigger point injections.

I did my advance Pain training within the Stoke school of Anaesthesia. During my training I also studied for a MSc in Pain at the University of Leicester. This helped me to develop my knowledge and skills in the Multidisciplinary management of Pain. I embraced the Bio-psychosocial model of Pain. In most patients Chronic Pain is a long term illness and the importance of early diagnosis and a holistic management approach was learnt. The key role of education and self-management was highlighted. The valuable roles of the Psychologist and Physiotherapist within the Pain team were appreciated.

I enjoy doing my role as a Pain Consultant helping this complex group of patients to better manage their long term medical condition. It gives me the opportunity to enhance my knowledge and interact with other medical Specialists and primary care physicians.
