About me

Mr Neil Toft is a consultant plastic surgeon based in London, with a specialist interest in skin cancer and and also hand surgery. He was born in Scotland and educated at George Watson’s College in Edinburgh. From 1988 to 1994 he studied medicine at Edinburgh University. During this time he gained numerous distinctions, including the Gold Medal in Pharmacology. In addition, he gained a first class honours degree in Pathology, graduating BSc (Hons) in 1992. In 1994 he passed his final MBChB medical exams and qualified as a doctor.

After completing his junior house officer posts at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh he undertook a two and a half year surgical research post studying the genetics of cancer growth. This led to the post-graduate award of Doctor of Medicine in 1998, with publication of an MD thesis and numerous scientific papers. For his research he was awarded the William Leslie Prize in Surgery. In 2000 he became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) after completing his basic surgical training in the hospitals around Edinburgh. After two years of plastic surgery training in Edinburgh and Newcastle he was appointed as a specialist registrar on the London plastic surgery rotation. From 2002 to 2006 he worked at the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, Wexham Park Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital, King Edward VIIth Hospital, the Wellington Hospital, and Great Ormond Street Hospital. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2005 after passing the plastic surgery exit exam, FRCS(Plast). He was accredited as a fully trained plastic surgeon in 2006 and joined the General Medical Council specialist register for plastic surgery (GMC registration number 4117740). This qualification allowed him to practise as a consultant in the NHS and also to operate privately. He was appointed as a consultant plastic surgeon at the Royal Free Hospital in London in 2007, and is a member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS).

As part of his NHS commitments as a consultant he works at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead and Mount Vernon Hospital in Northwood. He deals with most aspects of plastic surgery, but his areas of specialist interest are skin cancers, and all aspects of hand surgery, including children born with congenital abnormalities. He has had extensive training in hand surgery in Edinburgh, Newcastle and London, culminating in a Fellowship in paediatric hand surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

He also has a private practice based at a number of hospitals in central and northwest London. In addition to offering general plastic surgery and hand surgery.

Outside work he enjoys golf and fly-fishing.
