About me

Dr Bhandari was appointed as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS trust in 2005. He received his training in advanced endoscopic diagnosis and resection at the National Cancer Hospital in Tokyo and he currently leads a Tertiary advanced endoscopy service at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. He was appointed as a Professor of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy in 2012 and was awarded the Hopkins Endoscopy prize by the British Society of Gastroenterology in 2013 and has twice received the ASGE crystal award from American Society of Gi Endoscopy for his endoscopic work. He has been awarded FESGE by European society of Gi Endoscopy and FJGES by Japanese society of Endoscopy in recognition of his innovations & contribution to advancing the Endoscopy services at large.
He is the in-coming Vice President of British Society of Gastroenterology and is a specialist advisor to NICE and NIHR.
Prof Bhandari has authored and Co-authored more then 200 peer reviewed publications, Guidelines, Cochrane reviews and Book chapters. He regularly lectures at various National and International meetings and is constantly innovating new ways to improve patient care and outcomes.

Research interests

He is a core and the founder member of the BSG Endoscopy research Committee and Chair of European society of Gi Endoscopy Research committiee.
He has developed a very active endoscopic research program in Portsmouth. His research focus has been around the use of acetic acid in diagnosis of Barrettâ€™s neoplasia, cost-effectiveness of endoscopic interventions, advanced endoscopic resections and endoscopic outcome predictors. Other areas of research include Bowel Preperation, Chemoprevention, Endoscopic Surveillance and optical diagnosis, Cancer screening, haemostasis.
Use of artificial Intelligence in endoscopy, Resection of large colonic polyps and early cancers from oesophagus, stomach and duodenum.

Personal interests

Travelling.
Would still love to play cricket and hockey but can only watch as endoscopy has become my new hobby!
