About me
Professor Blackman is one of the leading interventional cardiologists in the United Kingdom. After training in Oxford and Toronto he was appointed to a Consultant post in Leeds in 2005. He is the lead for structural interventional cardiology in Leeds, which is the largest cardiac centre in the country. He has been a Council member of the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society since 2012, and is currently Chair of the Structural Intervention Group, having previously been Honorary Secretary. He has a national and international reputation in trans-catheter valve intervention, including trans-catheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), as well as mitral and tricuspid valve procedures. He has trained specialists throughout the UK, Europe, USA and Japan in performing TAVI.
Professor Blackman is also experienced in all aspects of clinical cardiology including chest pain, coronary artery disease, palpitation, valvular heart disease, and heart failure.
Professor Blackman runs a major research group in transcatheter valve intervention, and was made Professor of Interventional cardiology at the University of Leeds in 2022. He has published over 140 scientific papers.
Outside of work his main loves are family, sport, and his labrador. Rugby is now strictly armchair only, with active sporting activities restricted to running and golf.
