About me

Professor T Justin Clark is a Consultant Gynaecologist at the Birmingham Women’s Hospital & an Honorary Professor at the University of Birmingham.
Justin qualified from Birmingham University Medical School in 1993. He trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Leicester, Birmingham and the West Midlands and obtained the Membership of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (RCOG) in 1999 and is now a Fellow of the Royal College (FRCOG). He was awarded a ‘Doctor of Medicine’ higher degree with honours in 2004 for research into heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain and endometriosis. He was appointed as a Lecturer in Gynaecology at Birmingham University and Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Birmingham Women’s Hospital in 2004.
He has developed clinical expertise in the management of general gynaecological conditions, especially the treatment of menstrual disorders, fibroids, pelvic pain and endometriosis. This capability was facilitated by the acquisition of RCOG accreditation in minimal access ‘key hole’ surgery, specialising in hysteroscopic and laparoscopic techniques, and gynaecological ultrasound. He has been at the forefront in pioneering outpatient interventions for the diagnosis and treatment of menstrual disorders utilising hysteroscopy and ultrasound. His strong research background and clinical experience enabled him to publish a definitive book about the modern management of common gynaecological problems utilising minimally invasive approaches. He is one of the leading UK experts endoscopic surgery and diagnostic and therapeutic interventions in benign gynaecology.
He maintains close links with the University of Birmingham, both in research and teaching, where he-is academic achievements were recognised when he was made an Honorary Professor (2015-) and Director of the Birmingham Women’s Hospital Clinical Teaching Academy. He is actively involved with the training of medical students, junior doctors and GPs with an interest in gynaecology. His clinical and research interests lie in the management of abnormal bleeding and pelvic pain, where he holds over £4million in research funding. He lectures internationally and has published over 100 research papers, two books and guidelines for evidence-based gynaecological practice. He was elected as the West Midlands Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in (2007-2013) and an elected Officer of the British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy (2013-). He is a scientific editor on the British Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
Justin was awarded a Silver National Clinical Excellence Award in 2016
Justin is married with three daughters, a son and a badly behaved dog. He maintains his interests in sport, music and the arts. He supports Yorkshire Cricket Club and takes his young son to see West Bromwich Albion (under duress!!). His still participates in football and cricket with enthusiasm but increasingly less stamina!!
