About me

Dr. Gangil is a senior consultant cardiologist with over 17 years of experience in the diagnosis and treatment of complex cardiovascular disease. He specialises in minimally invasive (keyhole) catheter-based procedures for the repair/replacement of heart valves (TAVI and Mitraclip) and in complex coronary interventions for the treatment of narrowed heart arteries, including angina and heart attacks. He is amongst very few cardiologists in region to offer rotational atherectomy (calcium debulking) angioplasty to patients with calcified arteries, intravascular ultrasound, optical coherence tomography to deliver best patient care in all scenarios.

Dr. Gangil established and leads the Transcatheter Mitral Valve Service at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust, providing advanced, minimally invasive treatment options for patients with mitral valve disease. He also serves as the Cardiology Governance Lead at UHCW, reflecting his commitment to delivering the highest standards of quality, safety, and patient-centred care.

After completing his core cardiology training in India, Dr. Gangil undertook advanced subspecialty training through two highly prestigious international fellowships. He completed a fellowship in Complex Coronary Intervention in New Zealand, followed by a fellowship in Structural Heart Intervention, specialising in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) and Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair (MitraClip/TEER), at Barts Heart Centre, London. He has been serving as consultant at UHCW NHS Trust since 2020.
Dr. Gangil is a recognised expert in structural heart interventions and is regularly invited to serve as faculty at national and international cardiology conferences, where he teaches and demonstrates advanced interventional techniques.
His notable achievements include:
UK first: Pioneered a fully percutaneous (keyhole) approach for simultaneous transcatheter aortic and mitral valve replacement during the same procedure, performed without the need for general anaesthesia. This landmark achievement was featured in The Mirror.
First in the Coventry and Warwickshire region: Introduced Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement (TMVR), providing patients with a minimally invasive alternative to conventional mitral valve surgery. First in the Coventry and Warwickshire region: Established the Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair (TEER/MitraClip) programme, at UHCW NHS Trust offering an innovative keyhole treatment for mitral valve regurgitation.
First in the Coventry and Warwickshire region: Performed and transmitted live complex TAVI procedures to national and international cardiology conferences, showcasing advanced structural heart intervention techniques and contributing to global medical education.
