About me

I am a Consultant Specialist Knee Surgeon, devoting my entire practice to the knee. This singular focus allows me to offer you the full spectrum of modern treatments, from injections and targeted physiotherapy through to the most advanced ligament reconstruction, cartilage repair, and joint replacement. It means my advice is shaped entirely around what is right for you, never the operation I happen to do most.

Whatever has brought you here, whether it is a sports injury that will not settle, a knee that keeps giving way, persistent pain, or arthritis that is limiting the things you love, my aim is the same: to find out exactly what is wrong, explain it clearly, and get you back to moving comfortably and confidently. I provide rapid access to assessment and advanced MRI imaging, so you are not left waiting for answers, and I work hand in hand with specialist physiotherapists to build your recovery around your goals. I am also very happy to give second opinions.

The knee problems I treat most often include:

• Sports and ligament injuries: Sport-specific ACL, PCL and MCL reconstruction, and complex multi-ligament surgery
• Kneecap (patellofemoral) problems: Instability, dislocation and persistent anterior knee pain
• Cartilage and meniscus damage: Keyhole repair, transplantation and regenerative techniques to preserve your own joint
• Early arthritis and joint preservation: Realignment (osteotomy) to delay or avoid a replacement
• Knee replacement: Partial (unicompartmental), kneecap (patellofemoral), and total knee replacement, using robotic assistance and personalised 3D planning for a precise, natural-feeling result and a smoother recovery

I care for everyone from professional and recreational athletes determined to get back to sport, to people who simply want to walk, work and live without their knee holding them back. Whatever your starting point, you will get clear options, realistic expectations, and a plan made together.

You can also be confident that the advice you receive sits at the forefront of the evidence. Alongside my surgical practice I am a Senior Lecturer in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Bristol and hold a doctorate (DPhil/PhD) from the University of Oxford (Christ Church college), and I lead an award-winning knee research group. I was lead author of the UK national guidelines on meniscal injuries, I have published more than 45 peer-reviewed papers in leading journals including The Lancet and the British and American Journals of Sports Medicine, and I am Specialty Editor for Knee Surgery at the Bone & Joint Research journal. I am a member of the national BASK Joint Preservation Working Group and a regularly invited speaker at UK and international meetings. My subspecialist training included fellowships at leading centres in the UK (Oxford, Exeter, Oswestry) and travelling fellowships across North America (Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, Boston, Colorado, Ottawa) and I bring those techniques directly to my patients here.

Just as importantly, I believe good surgery starts with good listening. I will give you honest, jargon-free advice, take the time to understand what matters to you, and make every decision with you. Many knee problems can be improved without an operation, and I will always tell you when that is the case.

If your knee is holding you back, I would be glad to help you understand your options and get you moving again.
