About me

Hello
Before training as a psychologist, I had a varied career including working as an English Language Teacher in Spain and Brazil, a Tour Guide in Africa and a Wilderness Therapy Counsellor (see photo). I have also had two extended periods of illness where I was very limited in what work I could do. I have always been interested in meditation and spiritual exploration and once completed a three month silent retreat. I try to maintain a broad range of interests including reading, climbing, outdoor swimming, Qi Gong and Autogenic Training (a type of relaxation). I am active in my local Jewish community and the evidence shows that belonging to and participating in community of whatever kind is one of the most important protective factors in mental health. I am blessed with two young children who ensure that I remember the priorities in life.
As a therapist, I draw from my diverse life experiences to provide personalized care for each client. I believe that understanding each individual's unique background allows me to tailor my approach, fostering a supportive and effective therapeutic environment. Each individual client has a different 'journey' to make and hopefully I can help you navigate that journey to healing and growth.

Areas of interest

As a Clinical Psychologist I am trained to integrate and apply different therapeutic models to meet the needs of the individual. I have an ongoing interest in Trauma and am now an accredited EMDR Practitioner and have also completed the advanced attachment informed training under EMDR Focus.

Often clients say to me that they want 'tools' to help them deal with the issues in their lives and these can include anything from relaxation techniques to recommending books. ?

One thing I always do is to take a comprehensive history of a client. In effect we will be writing your autobiography. Just the act of telling your story can be very therapeutic. I want to provide an atmosphere where you as my client can feel supported to face your issues and find ways to alleviate distress.

Evidence shows that the most effective therapy is when client feedback is asked for and I may do this verbally or through simple feedback sheets.
