About me

Hello,
I've had a lot of experience of working with people with both physical and mental health difficulties since commencing my Registered General Nurse (RGN) training in1989.

I specialised in Mental Health in1994 when I commenced my Advanced Diploma in Counselling training. I gained experience working for Mind the mental health charity, and also working for Manchester Drug Service helping individuals battling addiction.

My interest in helping people make positive changes in their life led me to commence training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in 2009 whilst working for the NHS at Stepping Hill Hospital. I have 16 years experience working as a NHS, CBT therapist, and added Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), to my repertoire in 2022 when I completed my EMDR training. EMDR is a fantastic intervention which helps people process their traumas and lead happier, more enjoyable lives.

During that time I've worked with patients and clients experiencing multiple difficulties.

I understand its difficult speaking to, and sharing personal information with a person you don't know. There may be some things you've never shared with anyone. Its normal to feel apprehensive and anxious; I will help you feel as comfortable and as safe as you can through the therapy process and put you at ease.

I'm a kind, compassionate and caring person and am ready to make the therapy process as favourable and constructive an experience as possible, where we can work together as a team to bring positive changes to your life, and help overcome the challenges preventing you living the life you want to live.

with thanks, best wishes, Fiona.

Areas of interest

Working in the NHS for 16 years as a CBT/EMDR therapist & in GP surgeries as a Counsellor has been a brilliant journey and I've learned so much.

My experience includes:
working with PTSD and Complex PTSD. I've learned that traumas range from childhood sexual abuse, assaults/muggings, Industrial Accidents, Road Traffic Accidents, Domestic Abuse, Childbirth, Bullying, Sexual assault and rape.

Other disorders include: Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Panic Disorder, Agoraphobia, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Health Anxiety, Depression, Social Anxiety, Body Dysmorphia (BDD), Phobias, Trichotillomania, Low self esteem/ confidence and negative core beliefs about self.

I've worked with people with Autism & ADHD. Age ranges includes those aged 16 and above.

Its rewarding to see client's improvement and them leaving therapy happier and less anxious. I consider myself very lucky to do the work I do and feel motivated to continue to learn and expand my knowledge and skills.
