About me

Mr Zulfiqar A J Khan is a consultant general, colorectal, and laparoscopic colorectal surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn where he was appointed in 2002. He has a busy NHS practice in the colorectal unit at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King’s Lynn where he is the Lead Clinician for Laparoscopic Colorectal surgery. His private practice is based at the BMI Sandringham Hospital, King’s Lynn.

Following his basic surgical training in the Yorkshire region, Mr Khan undertook seven years of higher surgical training and received certificate of completion of specialist training from London Deanery. He also received specialist colorectal training at St. Mark’s Hospital London which is an Internationally renowned centre of excellence for the treatment of colorectal diseases. He spent two years of research at the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital London investigating novel methods of detection of circulating tumour cells in colorectal cancer patients and feasibility of its application to treatment response and prognostic information. This culminated in the award of a Master of Surgery higher degree from the Imperial College, University of London, as well as a Research Award from the Trustees of Charing Cross and Chelsea & Westminster Hospital London. His research and surgical work has resulted in numerous scientific papers and publications in high impact journals. He has delivered a large number of invited lectures nationally and internationally.

Mr Khan has developed a world class advanced laparoscopic colorectal surgery service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and has developed a reputation for the high standards of patient care. He is recognised by his peers and patients for the level of expertise in surgical operations and their outcomes. He was formally appointed as a trainer for consultants by the National laparoscopic colorectal surgery training programme and actively involved with the training & assessment of consultants. His collaborative work with Imperial College London in the objective methodology used for consultant assessments following laparoscopic training has resulted in a publication in the British Journal of Surgery. He is also actively involved with training of future surgeons and is a recognised trainer at the Royal College of Surgeons England where he runs several training courses and is also a panel member of the national committee for appointment of higher surgical trainees who will be the future consultants.
