About me

Mr. Praveen Kumar is a highly experienced ophthalmologist with over 30 years of clinical expertise, specialising in cataract and retinal disorders. He graduated with an MBBS from the University of Madras in 1993 and went on to complete his residency in ophthalmology at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), one of India's most prestigious medical institutions. There, he earned both a Diploma and a Master's degree in Ophthalmology, building a strong academic and surgical foundation.
Driven by a commitment to excellence, Mr. Kumar pursued a Glaucoma Fellowship at Aravind Eye Hospital, further enhancing his expertise in complex eye conditions, including advanced cataracts and retinal diseases. He began his UK career with a clinical attachment at the renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, followed by advanced training across several leading eye units in the UK.
He has served as an NHS Consultant since 2009 and recently completed an additional fellowship in complex cataract surgery in Jersey.
Mr. Kumar is a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and a Fellow of both the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He is also affiliated with the International Council of Ophthalmology, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the British Medical Association.
A GMC-recognised trainer, Mr. Kumar is passionate about mentoring future ophthalmologists and supporting the development of allied health professionals, while maintaining a compassionate, patient-centred approach to care.
