About me

Hi! I am Sophie, a Clinical Psychologist who is passionate about working alongside individuals, couples and families throughout hard times in life, such as in the face of serious physical illness, significant life changes and transitions, losses, grief, bereavement, mental health struggles and relationship difficulties. I offer a flexible, supportive space where we can talk about what is important to you.

When life gets hard, it can help to find someone who feels a bit like an anchor to weather the storms with, to feel emotionally held by, seen and understood. Someone who can support you to understand what you are feeling and why, to help you think about things through other perspectives and relate to yourself with compassion. Together we can try to make sense and meaning out of your experiences, access and build on the resources you carry, connect with important parts of your identity and find ways of living that honour what is important to you in life.

I have a genuine interest in learning about all aspects of a person's identity and life. I fundamentally believe that individuals, couples and families have skills, resources, knowledge, beliefs, values, competencies, commitments and abilities that can assist them in relation to the problem(s) they are experiencing. However, I understand that when the problem(s) we are facing in life feel insurmountable, it can be difficult to access these, and it can feel hard to cope. We may also lose hope.

I believe that whilst the problem(s) we face in life can feel insurmountable and are not always possible to 'fix', we can change the relationship that we have with the problem(s), and therapy can support this process. Sometimes it can feel difficult to identify, understand and express what we are feeling, but we know that we are struggling and feel stuck. I believe that therapy can help us to make sense of our feelings, why we think the way we think and why we do the things that we do to help us find the courage to carry on.

For me, the relationship is the most important aspect of therapy, and I understand the importance of finding someone who feels like the right fit for you. We can have a telephone conversation to speak about what you are experiencing and whether I may be a good fit for you before we agree to meet for a session. I will be happy to answer any questions you have.
