About me
Dr Anastasia Vamvakidou studied at the Medical School of the Democritus University of Thrace in Greece. She completed her Cardiology Specialty training in the Northwest Deanery in London. In 2018 she was awarded a Master's degree in Cardiology and Management in Brighton University. Consequently, she was also awarded a PhD with Imperial College London focusing on the value of stress echocardiography for the assessment of aortic stenosis; this work has been pivotal in establishing the use of a novel parameter, transvalvular flow rate, for the diagnosis and prognosis of aortic stenosis. She has published over 30 original papers in peer-reviewed journals in the field of valvular heart disease and stress echocardiography.
Dr Vamvakidou works as a Consultant Cardiologist at Imperial College in London and holds a position as an Honorary Senior Lecturer with Imperial College London. She is the lead for the Echocardiography module of the MSc in Medical Ultrasound Course in Imperial College London. She is an elected Trustee for the British Society of Echocardiography. She is in the Editorial Board of the European Heart Journal-Case Reports, European Heart Journal-Valvular and Structural Heart Disease as well as the Echo Research and Practice journals.
Dr Vamvakidou is accredited with the British Society of Echocardiography in transthoracic echocardiography, transoesophageal echocardiography and stress echocardiography and assesses regularly candidates sitting for their accreditation exams.
Dr Vamvakidou's areas of expertise include valvular heart disease, structural and perioperative transoesophageal echocardiography, stress echocardiography for valvular heart disease, myocardial contrast echocardiography, endocarditis, as well as heart failure, coronary artery disease, hypertension, hypercholesterolaemia and arrhythmia management.
