About me
Welcome. My name is Dr James Lea, I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, DBT psychotherapist, academic and researcher. I have been qualified for 16 years and working for the past 22 years across private practice, NHS, universities, social services and within charities. In private practice I work with individuals, couples and groups. My work draws on Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Psychodynamic Interpersonal Therapy (PIT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT) and Group Analysis.
In terms of expertise, I have worked extensively across the lifespan and with all experiences of psychological distress and challenge. This has included working with young people, adults of working age, older adults, people who identify as neurodiverse and those people who identify as LGBTQIA+ and/or GSRD. I have extensive experience offering sophisticated psychological assessment, intervention and therapy to all kinds of people, including those from marginalised and oppressed groups. These experiences have helped me to develop and foster cultural humility, and to hold in mind how power, position, privilege and intersectionality influence human development and how people make sense of their distress and the world around them. As an accomplished clinical psychologist, I am interested to understand what has happened to you, grounded in the belief that I have the necessary values, skills and knowledge to offer you the therapeutic time and space for your rest and exploration, so that you can create the life that you want to live.
