About me

Mr Shamsi El-Hasani for the past 42 years has specialised in upper gastrointestinal, gallbladder, hernia, and weight loss surgical procedures. He had long intense well-structured training, this was augmented by the large volume of the operative workload he has performed over the years which gave him extensive and wise knowledge, experience and advanced surgical handicraft. Shamsi has his NHS practice at the Princess Royal University Hospital, which is part of King’s College Hospital, in Orpington and he is the Lead Clinician for the department. Shamsi delivers his private practice for the whole of Kent with face-to-face and virtual consultations at Orpington, Bromley and Beckenham. He has been the Lead for Bariatric Services at the Bariatric Centre of Excellence at Chelsfield Park Hospital. This centre was accredited by the International Federation of Surgery for Obesity (IFSO) 9 years ago. Shamsi has more than 100 international publications in his field of
expertise. After long training in open surgery he had embarked on structured laparoscopic ( keyhole surgery) program and became after long years expert in his practice. In his career and over the years he had performed thousands of laparoscopic procedures including cholecystectomy ( removal of the gall bladder), inguinal hernia repair, different types of abdominal hernia repair. Shamsi has vast experience in managing dyspepsia, indigestion and gastro oesophageal reflux including over 500 procedures for laparoscopic hiatal hernia repair and antireflux surgery. In addition to the above Shamsi is interested and performed large series of primary and revisional Bariatric/weight loss surgeries including surgical management of type 2 diabetes. Obesity is a chronic disease and one operation in a lifetime may not be sufficient, and hence, revision surgery is the new chapter in bariatric surgery to maintain patient’s happiness. Common and regular procedures are:
1- Laparoscopic Cholecytectomy / Keyhole removal of the gall bladder
2- Laparoscopic and open repair of groin / inguinal and femoral hernia
3- Laparoscopic and open repair of all types of abdominal wall hernias
4- Gastroscopy and Endoscopy
5- Laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication and surgery for gastro oesophageal reflux
6- Removal of skin lesion
7- Bariatric / weight loss surgery
