About me
Mr Steven Kyriacou is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising exclusively in disorders of the shoulder, elbow, hand and wrist. He is committed to delivering personalised, evidence-based care, helping patients with both common and complex upper limb conditions regain function, reduce pain and return to the activities that matter most to them.
He is a Consultant at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, where he manages the full spectrum of upper limb conditions, from sporting injuries and degenerative disorders to complex fractures and reconstructive surgery. His practice includes the treatment of rotator cuff tears, shoulder instability, frozen shoulder, arthritis, nerve compression syndromes, Dupuytren's disease, tendon disorders and traumatic injuries affecting the upper limb.
Mr Kyriacou graduated from the University of Birmingham Medical School before completing specialist Orthopaedic training across London and the East Midlands. He subsequently undertook advanced fellowship training at several internationally recognised centres, including the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, King's College Hospital and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. These appointments provided advanced subspecialty training in Shoulder & Elbow surgery, Hand & Wrist surgery and complex upper limb trauma.
He has previously been awarded several prestigious travelling fellowships, including the Watanabe Travelling Fellowship, the British Orthopaedic Association Zimmer Reconstructive Upper Limb Travelling Fellowship and the ESSKA Smith & Nephew International Arthroscopy Travelling Fellowship, enabling him to learn from internationally renowned experts and incorporate contemporary surgical techniques into his practice.
He has extensive expertise in both arthroscopic (keyhole) and open surgical techniques, including rotator cuff repair, shoulder stabilisation, shoulder replacement surgery, fracture fixation and reconstructive procedures of the upper limb. Where appropriate, he also places a strong emphasis on non-operative treatment, ensuring that every patient receives an individualised management plan tailored to their needs and lifestyle.
Alongside his clinical work, Mr Kyriacou has a strong academic and educational commitment. He has published widely in peer-reviewed orthopaedic journals and regularly presents research at national and international scientific meetings. He holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education from University College London, is a Faculty Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, is actively involved in training Orthopaedic surgeons and regularly teaches at regional teaching programmes and national educational courses.
He believes that successful treatment begins with careful listening, clear communication and shared decision-making. By taking the time to understand each patient's goals and expectations, he aims to provide the highest standard of care while achieving the best possible functional outcome.
