About me

Matthew Parsons MB ChB, DFFP, MRCOG is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Birmingham Women’s Hospital, Edgbaston. He trained at the University of Bristol, graduating MB ChB in 1993.

Mr Parsons is a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, and was awarded a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in obstetrics and gynaecology in June 2003, from the North Thames Deanery. He developed his interest in urogynaecology as Senior House Officer at King’s College Hospital, and elected to undertake special interest training after achieving his CCST, under the expert guidance of Professor Cardozo at King’s College Hospital – one of the world’s foremost experts and teachers in pelvic floor assessment and treatment.

Mr Parsons now has three gynaecology clinics each week and sees a wide range of general clinical problems, including heavy or painful periods and abdominal pain, and vaginal discharge.

Mr Parsons also has a particular interest in urogynaecology and he works as part of a multi-disciplinary team including specialist nurses, physiotherapists and other doctors to treat the symptoms as shown in his clinical interests opposite.

Mr Parsons is also happy to offer surgical treatments if need be, including nurse led clinics; inpatient bladder training; bladder instillations; pelvic floor surgery and repair; vaginal hysterectomy; and continence surgery (“TVT”, bladder neck injections, colposuspension).

Areas of interest

Mr Parsons has a particular interest in urogynaecology; he works as part of a multi-disciplinary team including specialist nurses, physiotherapists and other doctors to treat symptoms such as prolapse; urinary incontinence; stress incontinence; overactive bladder symptoms; sexual dysfunction; bladder pain; and night-voiding or bedwetting. He offers a broad range of investigations including ‘quality of life’ assessment; electronic bladder diary; laboratory urodynamics; video urodynamics; ambulatory urodynamics; cystoscopy; and complimentary tests such as urethral pressure profiling and pad testing.
He offers a wide range of treatments including inpatient bladder training; bladder instillations; pelvic floor surgery and repair; vaginal hysterectomy; and continence surgery (“TVT”; bladder neck injections; colposuspension).
