About me

Originally I am from Birmingham but moved to Leeds where I went to medical school and graduated in 1990. I spent some time working in cardiology in the Leeds hsopitals before moving to the South Coast to complete my specialist training in Cardiology.

I spent two years working in the United States completing a higher research degree that was awarded with commendation.

I have worked at University Hospital Southampton since 1996 and was appointed as a consultant in 2002. I have been in practice at Spire Hospital Southampton since 2002.

I am a cardiologist with a specialist interest in cardiac arrhythmias. This encompasses an extremely broad range of conditions:
Assessing and treating patients with palpitations/irregular heart beat
Treating abnormal heart rhythms with medication or catheter ablation
Implanting cardiac devices e.g. pacemakers, implantable defibrillators (ICDs), biventricular devices (CRT) and injectable diagnostice devices
Assessing patients who might be at risk of sudden cardiac death
Treating all aspects of atrial fibrillation including assessing and modifying stroke risk

The Heart Rhythm Clinic in association with Spire Southampton has a state of the art electrophysiology lab that is equipped with the latest technology that allows the team to deliver care at the leading edge. I implanted the first leadless Micra pacemaker in the United Kingdom and will be able to offer this technology to patients at Spire Southampton in 2015.

I continue to be an active researcher publishing in the major cardiac journals and presenting at international meetings.

Areas of interest

Cardiac rhythm management; Cardiac electrophysiology; atrial fibrillation; left atrial appendage occlusion; implantation of leadless pacemakers; risk stratification for sudden cardiac death (SCD); surgical ablation of atrial fibrillation; medicolegal
