About me

Having obtained my medical degree at Clare College, Cambridge and St. Thomas’ Hospital, London I undertook house jobs at St Thomas’ and Worthing. I received my basic surgical training on the St Bartholomew’s SHO training programme before undertaking my orthopaedic training on the South East Thames Training Programme. In 1999 I was awarded the Walter Mercer Gold Medal and the Arthur Edward Burton Memorial Prize for my performance in the Intercollegiate Specialty Examination in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery. During my training I developed an interest in upper limb surgery and undertook fellowships at The Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead, The Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney, Australia (with Professor Michael Tonkin) and at The Prince of Wales Hospital, Randwick, Sydney (with Professor David Sonnabend).

I was appointed as a Consultant at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton in March 2001 where I have continued to develop my interest in upper limb surgery. I enjoy teaching and organise a number of regional courses in open and arthroscopic surgery as well as instruct on national shoulder arthroscopy courses as a member of the Watanabe club faculty. I was the lead orthopaedic surgeon for the Sussex Orthopaedic NHS Treatment Centre from 2006 until 2009, the lead Orthopaedic Consultant for BSUH NHS Trust from September 2009 until February 2013 and served on the council of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society (BESS) from 2016-2018. I am currently the Medical Director of the Montefiore Hospital in Hove and am an examiner for the FRCS (Tr & Orth) final orthopaedic exam.
