About me
Mr Andrew Wallace graduated from medical school at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia in 1987 before moving to Edinburgh, Scotland to undertake a period of postgraduate research leading to a PhD in bone healing. In 1992 he returned to Sydney to complete his orthopaedic training, followed by Fellowships in Shoulder and Elbow surgery in Sydney and in Calgary, Canada. Whilst in Canada he developed an interest in basic science aspects of soft tissue healing, and the relationship of instability to joint degeneration.
He was appointed Senior Lecturer in Musculoskeletal Surgery at Imperial College London in 1999 and was a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Charing Cross Hospital 1999-2003 and then at St Mary’s Hospital until 2005. As well as numerous articles on basic sciences, he has published on shoulder instability, acromioclavicular reconstruction, rotator cuff repair and shoulder joint replacement.
In 2002 he was the Travelling Fellow of the European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and Elbow to the United States, and is an active member of that society, the British Elbow and Shoulder Society and the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons. His professional interests include arthroscopic teaching and training and research on the biomechanical aspects of arthroscopic shoulder reconstructive techniques. He currently treats a large number of both amateur and professional athletes from the sports of rugby, cricket, football, tennis, track and field and swimming from the UK and overseas.
Areas of interest
Arthroscopic and open shoulder surgery, shoulder instability, rotator cuff tears, arthritis and sports injuries of the shoulder.
