Dr Kirsten R Mackay

Consultant Rheumatologist

Dr Mackay:
Dr Mackay graduated in medicine and surgery from the Medical School of Bristol University. She trained in General Medicine at Southmead and Frenchay hospitals, Bristol, Northwick Park hospital, London and Queensland Australia.

She subsequently undertook specialist training in Rheumatology, at Northwick Park hospital, London, St Vincent's hospital Dublin, Frenchay hospital, Bristol, the University of Oxford and principally at the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases, Bath.

Her research at the Welcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics, based at the University of Oxford, was supported by a fellowship from Arthritis Research UK and her published work has appeared in major medical publications. She has been awarded a Doctorate in Medicine by the University of Bath, as a result.

At present, she is a consultant physician in Rheumatology at Torbay Hospital and also consults for the NHS at Newton Abbot and Totnes hospitals.

She is a trustee of the Torbay arthritis Project (TAP) and President of Torbay Arthritis Care. She is clinical lead for Rheumatology and Osteoporosis in South Devon and research lead for musculoskeletal research in the Peninsula.

Kilgraston Consulting:
Dr Mackay undertakes private consultations at her surgery in the Kilgraston Consulting rooms (see contact details and map), usually every Tuesday evening, and occasionally for urgent problems, by request, at other times.

She specialises in all aspects of Rheumatology (including all forms of Rheumatism, painful joints, back pain, osteoporosis, connective tissue diseases, vasculitis and sports medicine).

She has a particular interest in early inflammatory arthritis (e.g. Rheumatoid arthritis, Psoriatic Arthritis and Ankylosing Spondylitis), Biologic therapies, Gout, Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR) and Temporal Arteritis (or Giant Cell Arteritis).
