About me

Richard specialises in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery. His specialist interests include the treatment of gallstones, hernias, reflux and obesity.

He graduated from Manchester University in 1998. He completed his surgical training in the North West and South West of the UK. He became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1992.
After research in Louisville, USA, he was awarded an MD by Manchester University.
After a fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery in South Australia, he was appointed Consultant Specialist UGI Surgeon at the Royal United Hospital and Bristol Royal Infirmary in 2001.

Mr Krysztopik has continued to develop considerable experience in minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery. He is an expert for complex gallbladder disease, reflux surgery and keyhole hernia surgery. He is the local NHS lead for patients with oesophageal and gastric cancer, helping co-ordinate a large multidisciplinary team.

Richard in an active researcher and educator, leading regional educational programmes. He is the South West representative for the Association of UGI Surgeons. He leads the Somerset, Wiltshire, Avon and Gloucestershire UGI Cancer Network.

Richard was born in Lancashire and brought up in the North West of England. He has lived in Bath for nearly 20 years. He is married with three children. When not being told what to do by his teenage children, he enjoys cycling, the arts and cooking for friends.
