About me

My work with Adults, Children, Young people and BAME Communities.

I have a wealth of Psychotherapy and support work experience, which has been gained across a successful career spanning over 13 years. Within my current roles, I hold full responsibility for providing one to one support for vulnerable children with complex needs. Within this capacity, I ensure that all safeguarding rules are strictly adhered to whilst showcasing strong knowledge of the Professional Conduct and Ethical Framework. I strive to maintain high standards of service levels and key relationships with a broad range of stakeholders; both across the organisations and with external bodies. I have experience working within diverse individuals and environments and have championed equality and diversity within every role that I have worked within. My previous roles have included working as a Youth Worker, Counsellor and BAME Counsellor/Psychotherapist. In which I have a proven track record of developing and maintaining effective partnerships with parents, families, and partners such as Education, Health, Police and Children’s Social Care, to achieve positive outcomes.

As a professional, I am highly motivated and driven by achieving positive outcomes I am keen to work alongside families to enable and support parents in creating supportive environments for their children. Throughout my career, I have developed transferable skills and knowledge including attachment theory, child development, transactional analysis, CBT as well as parent and child relationships, BAME and LGBTQ communities. My personal maxim is to strive for excellence, capturing the Child`s Voice and it is really important to me that I enjoy my work and am able to see the positive difference I make.

My experience includes extensive work with families in crisis, this has included working with families facing a diverse range of challenges such as becoming homeless, bereavement, terminal illness, domestic violence, and family/relationship breakdown. Within this capacity, I have managed the initial needs assessments and worked closely with management teams to take appropriate steps to ensure families receive the support needed through appropriate channels. This has also included providing support for young people with special needs, suffering from eating disorders, self-harm and risk of suicide, working in line with the Triage model, completing all write-ups and managing referral documentation. Furthermore, I have managed various databases.

As a professional, I take ownership of my personal and professional development and have maintained up to date on all regulatory CPD training. I continuously reflect critically on my practice to identify what could I have done differently or what could I have potentially done better. I am very well aware of my competencies and understand my limits and as such, I'm not afraid to seek guidance and advice to better manage a situation beyond my competencies. Throughout my career, I have actively sought constructive feedback from both peers and clients to identify growth areas and create actionable development plans.

I am also a firm believer in teamwork and working collectively to deliver the best outcomes. As such when managing challenging parents who have been reluctant to change, I have actively sought advice from management, Family support works, FSW key workers and Schools (Pastoral) to identify different approaches to build engagement and a way forward.

Fundamentally, I am a highly motivated and dedicated therapist, with a strong strategic vision and genuinely committed to making a difference and a duty of care. I practice the core conditions of empathy, congruence, and positive regard on a daily basis.
