About me

Mr Dariush Kamali has comprehensive expertise in general and colorectal surgery, including gallbladder surgery, hernia surgery, and specialised management of patients with inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer.

Appointed as a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at the County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, he is the only surgeon at the Trust to perform single incision laparoscopic /‘scarless’ surgery for both benign and malignant surgical conditions, in addition to conventional laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery. Holding full JAG accreditation in both upper and lower GI endoscopy, Mr Kamali performs advanced endoscopic procedures, including colonic stent insertion for patients with advanced bowel cancer. Always looking for ways to effectively innovate in his field, he has successfully introduced a new stent technique at the Trust, enabling more patients to receive this procedure.

After graduating from the University of Nottingham Medical School in 2008, Mr Kamali completed his general surgical training in the Northern Deanery before becoming a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2018. Passionate about educating medical students and surgical trainees alike, since completing a master’s degree in Medical Education at the University of Newcastle, he has acted as a clinical and educational supervisor for both core and higher general surgical trainees form the North East of England.

Mr Kamali has been published in a number of peer-reviewed journals in both general and colorectal surgery and has presented his work internationally, including at the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons in Boston, USA. He is registered as a specialist in general surgery with the General Medical Council.

Outside of work, Mr Kamali enjoys spending time with his wife, their three young children and their lovable labrador, Pippin. The family enjoy hiking in the beautiful local countryside and travelling, with skiing being a favourite past time. Mr Kamali plays football and tennis regularly, in addition to being a keen runner and has completed a number of marathons.
