About me

Andrena McElvanney is an established Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon in South West London, based at Epsom & St. Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust and St Anthony’s Hospital, Cheam, Surrey.

She has a special interest in ocular surface disease and eyelid conditions and has numerous publications in this field.

She is currently vice president of the European Contact Lens Society of Ophthalmologists ECLSO – an organisation devoted to promoting contact lens education and excellence within Europe. She is a past president of the Medical Contact Lens and Ocular Surface Association (MCLOSA) and the Southern Ophthalmological Society (SOS). She is a former BCLA council member and currently the UK national representative for MCLOSA.

She has a keen interest in ophthalmic training and is currently the Regional Advisor for the South West Thames region for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and is also a member of the ophthalmology specialty advisory group at the London School of Ophthalmology. She is a former council member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and former member of both the professional standards and training committees.
In 2013 she was presented with the Jonathan Kersley award for the eponymous lecture at ECLSO. She has also organised 2 contact lens themed seminars at EUCornea, and remains an invited speaker. In addition, she has hosted several regional ophthalmology teaching sessions for Ophthalmologists. She recently presented at the SOE contact lens symposium in June 2019.
