About me

I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with extensive clinical experience and a breadth and depth of knowledge and skill. I completed my Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology at Newcastle-Upon-Tyne University in 1992, before undertaking a PhD, also at Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, whilst working as a clinician within the NHS. Before training as a Clinical Psychologist I was a qualified nurse with several years of experience working within general hospital settings. I have worked as a clinical psychologist for many years and was also the Director of a University Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Training Course before leaving for New Zealand in 2004. I continued to practice as a Clinical Psychologist in New Zealand, both in private practice and for a District Health Board. I was also a Psychology Advisor to New Zealand’s Accident Compensation Corporation and provided consultation and treatment for people with physical injures, abuse histories, medical misadventures and much more. Since returning to the UK I have worked within the NHS most recently as the Clinical Director for Psychological Services within my local NHS Board. I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist and an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (BPS). I am also registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and remain a Registered Clinical Psychologist with the New Zealand Psychology Board.

Over my career, spanning more than 28 years, I have gained expertise in a number of areas, such as mood disorders, anxiety, phobias, relationship issues, trauma, etc., and I specialise in working with survivors of sexual abuse and Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID).

I use a range of therapies including Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy, (CFT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), brief solution focused therapy, & Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and can provide both short and long term treatments based upon need. I work with individuals, couples, and groups to promote and encourage psychological well being and to help people gain a sense of fulfilment and achievement in their life and to develop skills and understanding to manage emotional upsets and distress.
