About me

Dr Brookes trained at The Middlesex Hospital, London qualifying in 1986

Returning to The Middlesex Hospital in 1992 Dr Brookes joined the UCLH Radiology training scheme , London 1992-7. As Clinical Lecturer at The National Medical Laser Centre (1994-6) he pursued research into image-guided Tumour ablation [MR thermography , first ever lung tumour ablation, first ever fibroid percutaneous ablation, and proposed and published the first world series of fetal postmortem MR scanning as alternative to autopsy , Lancet 1996.

Appointed Consultant Radiologist at UCLH 1998-present (cardiovascular speciality) he introduced Laser treatment of varicose veins (EVLT/ELVeS) to UK – March 2001 and developed angiography and angioplasty as a day case service (Excimer laser angioplasty since 2010).
Introduced and developed embolisation for tumours, aneurysms and fibroids.

2007/8 (Sabbatical)
Associate Lecturer at University of the West Indies. Continued visiting vascular practice Bridgetown, Barbados to present.

2009-11 Divisional Clinical Director of Imaging and vascular services UCLH

2018 Chair of UCLH Consultants Committee

Currently Regional Lead Clinician for Vascular malformations (AVM), based at Royal Free Hospital London NW3
