About me

I offer a general surgical and coloproctology service. My particular area of expertise is in bowel problems. My main areas of interest are advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) techniques in the treatment of colonic and rectal (bowel) cancer, as well as specialist disease of the anus and anal canal including haemorrhoids (piles), fissures and fistula.

I offer a comprehensive approach to the management of abdominal and groin hernias.
I qualified in medicine at the University of Manchester and completed my surgical training in London, including a fellowship at the specialist centre for bowel diseases, St Marks Hospital in London.

I work in the NHS at the John Goligher Colorectal Unit at St James University Hospital, where I am the lead surgeon for the Intestinal failure service, receiving referrals from throughout Yorkshire. I am a core member of the Leeds Bowel Cancer Multidisciplinary team (MDT), which sees approximately 400 bowel cancer referrals a year.

I am actively involved in the teaching and training of medical students and junior trainee surgeons. I am an Associate Professor at the University of Leeds and have published many research articles on bowel disease. I am actively involved in, and lead on, clinical studies into bowel disease.
