About me

My name is Dr Amy Howarth, and I am a chartered Psychologist (HCPC registered), specialised in working with adults and children who are experiencing emotional and behavioural challenges in their lives.

I offer evidence-based psychological therapy to people within the Ascot area, and my approach to therapy is warm, compassionate and respectful. I also work online- offering sessions over Zoom, so can accept referrals from further afield.

I aim to support the people I work with to develop a better understanding of their thoughts, feelings and behaviour, to gain helpful strategies to manage tricky situations and internal experiences, and to create positive change in their lives.

I draw on a variety of therapeutic models in my practice, as well as 12 years of clinical experience offering psychological therapy in the NHS and private sectors.

I work in an integrative way, which means that I draw on a range of psychological models of therapy to tailor my therapeutic approach to address each person’s individual needs. I have training in a number of therapy models, which include, but are not limited to; Cognitive Behavioural Therapy [CBT], Acceptance and Commitment Therapy [ACT], Compassion Focussed Therapy [CFT], Psychodynamic Therapy and Narrative Therapy.

I have a doctorate in Psychotherapeutic and Counselling Psychology from the University of Surrey and a BSc in Psychology from Newcastle University.

My most recent NHS role was as a Highly Specialist Psychologist within a busy Tier 3 Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service [CAMHS] in London. Here I offered psychological assessments and interventions to teenagers experiencing complex and enduring mental health difficulties. I also offered clinical supervision to other mental health professionals in the team, consultation to schools and Social Workers, and contributed to the overall development of the service. Prior to this role, I have worked in other specialist Tier 2 and Tier 3 CAMHS teams in London, supporting children, adolescents and their families with various emotional and behavioural challenges. I have also had the pleasure of working therapeutically with adults in both my NHS and private work.
