About me
I have been a Consultant Gastroenterologist for over 24 years based at The Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust in South East London. I undertake private practice at BMI The Blackheath Hospital and The London Bridge Hospital. I manage a wide variety of disorders affecting the intestine and liver. I also do endoscopic examinations of the stomach (gastroscopy) and bowel (colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy). My particular areas of interest include inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), celiac disease and irritable bowel syndrome. I also do ‘therapeutic’ procedures including balloon dilatations of ‘strictures’ (areas of narrowing in the gullet or intestine).
Management roles undertaken include Clinical Director for Gastroenterology at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. I was Secretary of the endoscopy section of the British Society of Gastroenterology from 2009 to 2012 and was the BSGE representative on the Royal College of Anaesthetists working party developing guidelines for ensuring safe sedation practice for healthcare procedures. I was Regional Gastroenterology Training Programme Director. In 2009 I was given a Bronze National Award for my research and work for national and regional organisations.
